What is a NatHERS 7 Star Rating?

Short answer

A NatHERS 7 star rating measures the thermal performance of a home to show it can stay naturally comfortable with less reliance on heating and cooling.

Full answer

NatHERS stands for Nationwide House Energy Rating Scheme. The 7 star rating is the new minimum energy efficiency standard for new homes under the National Construction Code 2022. A 7 star home uses design features such as orientation insulation and glazing to reduce energy demand. Achieving 7 stars shows that the home will be cooler in summer warmer in winter and use less energy overall.

Why this matters

Moving from 6 stars to 7 stars can cut household energy bills, improve comfort and reduce greenhouse gas emissions. It is also now a compliance requirement.
