There is no required minimum, but most older homes rate between 1.5 and 3.5 stars.
Unlike new homes, which must meet minimum star ratings under building codes, existing homes are not required to achieve a specific rating. The assessment is voluntary and intended to inform homeowners about performance gaps. Low ratings are common and often highlight key areas where energy upgrades would have the biggest impact.
Understanding your starting point can help you plan practical upgrades that lead to greater comfort, energy savings and improved property value.
We give you a clear breakdown of your rating and what it means. If you want to improve your star rating, we can also model upgrade options and predict the results before you begin work.
No minimum star rating applies to existing homes
Some loan or rebate programs require a post-upgrade rating goal
