What are the BASIX certificate requirements?

The BASIX certificate requirements includes achieving BASIX benchmarks and targets for example to water and energy levels.

BASIX Benchmarks

To determine water and energy targets, the average benchmark for per person consumption of potable water and greenhouse gas emissions is compared with figures from the NSW residential sector.

For water, the NSW benchmark per person is 90,340 litres per year and for energy it is 3,292 kg of CO2-e per year.

BASIX Targets

A BASIX target is the percentage figure of water and greenhouse gas savings compared to the NSW Government’s benchmark. While a general figure is representative of the whole of NSW, variations are also implemented to reflect regional climate areas. This consideration of local variations includes environmental factors such as evaporation rates, soil types and rainfall levels. This consideration of local variations maintains parity throughout NSW without certain regions being charged excessively.

  • Construction certificate
Prior to construction of your project occurring, you will need to apply for a construction certificate which will need to be attached to your BASIX certificate.
  • Occupation certificate
A final occupation certificate will be issued upon confirmation that your constructed project has complied with the commitments stated on the BASIX certificate.
